Alain K and José Cardoso. Officially: A duo of painters who paint together. They are two individuals. Not always agree.

They are two universes, two approaches to contemporary art, two approaches to painting, two approaches to life. With these parameters, producing a painting is not easy. Paint it Blank works in confrontation. Sometimes a painting is done in 10 minutes by passing from one hand to the other Sometimes it is the intervention of only one of the two that is judged by both to be sufficient and a table is then declared complete, validated. Sometimes it takes months. And often, most of the time a painting is the composition of several pieces.

The assembly The assembly is done during so-called assembly sessions, where the brushes remain at rest. Once a piece is painted, whatever its size, it is examined. She can go back to the site, she then goes into the heap "under construction". It can be cropped. It usually ends up in the category to be assembled. This is called the heap. The heap Technically the heap is multiple. Separated in formats: small, medium, large, strip, square ... Separated by genre: figurative, abstract, title. The heap is never empty. It is sometimes a source of anxiety. The assembly is done by tapping in the heap. It is done on the criteria of color, format, but also of meaning.
Protocols Paint it Blank works a lot by protocols, series, work in progress. The main ones can be found on this website (Protocol works). Sometimes Paint It Blank organizes filmed workshop performances. You can find these workshop performances in the Paint it Blank journal.

Other techniques, methods used by paint it Blank:

The titles Most paint it blank paintings are titled, some will even say that their painting is talkative. The titles are generally found separately from the paintings they accompany / illustrate. There are lists of titles (first in the notebook, on files stored on the internet for a few years), titles gleaned at random from reading, listening to music ... These titles are then offered in front of paintings already made, and sometimes the marriage is made. Significations unthinkable at the outset are then discovered. We are between the cadavre exquis of the surrealists, the cut up of Burroughs and the great anything (assumed by Paint it Blank)

Wax 10 years ago Paint it Blank worked a lot with tissue paper and wax. On a painted background, layers of tissue paper were applied with iron-on wax, making the tissue paper transparent. The assembly was then done as for photoshop filters. The use of evening paper made it possible to paint either upside down or upside down. It was through this practice of superposition that the way of proceeding appeared by confronting several pieces. Paint it Blank has since put the practice of wax on hold, but it could resurface. The imprint Initially, Paint it Blank worked the material and painted a lot with a trowel. The protocol at the time was to load paint and then cover it with printer pigments or toner. A sheet of paper was painted, then put it on another sheet to print it. The first sheet (imprint) then represented the final subject, but in reverse. This detail is important when it comes to text,; which then found itself written upside down to be printed on the right. The Paint it Blanks perfected their reverse writing technique at that time (with accidents still occurring on the N and Z). These footprints at the start were intended not to be reworked, but it became a game, the Paint it Blank ended up being as interested in it.
